“ | Don't you want to battle to win a prize? | ” |
Battle for BFDI and Battle for BFB (abbreviated BFB, also known as Battle for Battle for Dream Island (for Battle for BFDI), and Battle for Battle for BFDI or Battle for Battle for Battle for Dream Island (for Battle for BFB)) make up the fourth season of the Battle for Dream Island series. BFB is the successor to the third season IDFB. It premiered on November 3, 2017, with the release of "Getting Teardrop to Talk", and concluded on April 9, 2021, with the release of "Chapter Complete".
A fifth season, known as Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two, aired simultaneously. It was announced to premiere on January 9, 2021, but due to bugs with the intro,[citation needed] it premiered on January 10, 2021. A sixth season is also planned to be made after TPOT ends.
The prize used to be a BFDI, but in "The Escape from Four", Four upgraded it to a BFB to keep contestants competing. In "X Marks the Spot", he added the original prize (a BFDI) back to the prize pool, making BFB the first season to have two prizes.
Overview[]
Unlike IDFB, Battle for BFDI goes back to the traditional format of challenges and eliminations, similar to the first and second seasons. The elimination style changed to a choice of saving rather than eliminating in BFB 17.
The art style is more simplified and animated more loosely, which in turn allowed the running time of the first episode to be nearly half an hour-long, and later episodes to be able to be made within a shorter time frame.
Many unexplained plot changes have happened to let new characters join the cast and for old characters to return. Additionally, Profily debuted as a contestant in "The Hidden Contestant".
The first episode, "Getting Teardrop to Talk", introduces the fourth season's cast as well as the new hosts, Four and X from the 2008 jacknjellify video, "X Finds Out His Value".
Although the release of IDFB confirmed BFDIA was not coming for the foreseeable future, the release of BFB does not confirm the continuation of IDFB's hiatus. Since all of the characters are present (except for Evil Leafy and Nonexisty), including the ones that were originally trapped in the Locker of Losers, this might mean that IDFB is not cancelled and BFB takes place sometime in the future. However, it is highly possible, as stated by Cary in his BFB 1 reaction video.

On February 27, 2021, between the releases of "SOS (Save Our Show)" and "Chapter Complete", the jacknjellify channel uploaded an official, three-hour-and-43-minute video compiling every episode of the first part of the fourth season, with black title cards marked after the intro.
Battle for B.F.B. - Season 4b (All Episodes)[]
- Main article: Battle for B.F.B. - Season 4b (All Episodes)
On July 29, 2023, the jacknjellify channel uploaded an official, four-hour-and-21-minute video compiling every episode of the second part of the fourth season. Like the first part of season 4, each episode has black title cards marked after the intro.
Trivia[]
- This is the second season of BFDI to be completed, with Battle for Dream Island being the first.
- This is the second season where the first eliminated contestant originated from Season 1
- This season features the most contestants out of BFDI, with 65 of them.
- BFB's unabbreviated name after BFB 17 is Battle for Battle for Battle for Dream Island.
- As Battle for BFDI, its unabbreviated name is Battle for Battle for Dream Island.
- Strangely, Evil Leafy and Nonexisty are the only 2 contestants not to appear in this season. This is most likely due to Evil Leafy being the antagonist and Nonexisty being more of a joke.
- Nonexisty was considered for the show, but at the time, the crew agreed he would be a waste of a slot.
- Nonexisty would have been mentioned in a scrapped storyboard of BFB 3.
- Evil Leafy was seen as a recommended character by Diamondcup67 in BFB 6.
- There is an equal ratio of male to female contestants with 32 of each gender.
- This is also the case for the show after the split with 7 of each gender.
- Interestingly, the EXIT, after the split, has 5 of each gender, making the gender ratio for BFB overall still equal even if one ignores the TPOT contestants.
- This is also the case for the show after the split with 7 of each gender.
- This is the first season to have the recommended characters outnumber the characters made by the creators.
- Prior to "The Escape from Four", it's possible that Battle for BFDI takes place in Yoyleland, as the tower on top of the Yoyle Mountain can be seen in multiple scenes, like seen in the picture on the right.
- However, it is more likely that the season's location is nearby Yoyleland because the grass isn't purple, if the nearby land wasn't terraformed off camera.[1]
- After the events of "The Escape from Four", BFB took place at The Pillary Ruins; TPOT is currently held at BFB's original location.
- As of "The Hidden Contestant", the game is moving to a new location, which was revealed in "Uprooting Everything" to be The Desert from "Getting Teardrop to Talk".
- BFB is one of two seasons to have the competition switch to a new permanent location in the middle of the season. The other is BFDIA.
- This is the only season to have contestants eliminated via quitting.
- Ever since "X Marks the Spot", TPOT contestants can only make cameo appearances.
- As a result of the split:
- There are 7 members of the Squishy Cherries and only 3 original Squashy Grapes.
- Spongy, Roboty, and 8-Ball are the only armless contestants.
- Roboty, Stapy and 8-Ball are also legless.
- Dora, Gelatin, and Ruby are the only BFDIA newbies.
- Liy and Stapy are the only members of their respective teams.
- 8-Ball is the only ball contestant.
- Roboty is the only mechanical mind.
- The intro is always started by a character using their limb to resemble Four's pose.
- "SOS (Save Our Show)" and "Chapter Complete" is unique in this regard as this doesn't happen.
- The intro's song is called "MUSIC OF FOUR'S 3D HAND".
- The hosts, Four and X, previously appeared in a 2008 jacknjellify animation called "X Finds Out His Value".
- The logo's font is Albertus Medium.
- This is the first season not to have release dates at the end of the episodes.
- However, the creators sometimes announced the release date for the future episode(s) after the voting. For example, Satomi Hinatsu has announced the release time of BFB 12 on July 10, 2018.[2]
- As of BFB 17, episode release dates are announced from non-canon videos directly preceding the main episodes.
- BFB uses a new animation style compared to the prior seasons where the mouth, arms, and legs are now hand-drawn, and the animation is mostly done frame-by-frame.
- Although before BFB a similar animation style was also used in "BFDI is Back" and "Paper Towel".
- The original BFDI assets for facial features and limbs aren't used in BFB (except in arm fluttering, most walking and running, other rare occasions, and sometimes even as a joke).
- The show is animated with Animate CC and saved on this folder.
- "Don't Dig Straight Down", BFB's episode 14 was delayed 2 times, it was supposed to release on August 7, 2019 but Satomi had a flight to New York. And on August 14, 2019 when Michael's apartment was infested by cockroaches.
- This is the first season with multiple prizes.
- This is the first season with a prize that isn’t Dream Island.
- This is the first season in which previously eliminated contestants aren't held in the TLC. Instead, the first 12 contestants are held inside the EXIT and the rest are held in the BRB.
- This is the first season where a female is in last place. (Note that Woody was last place in BFDI as Flower rejoined late and finished 4th/21, and Donut was 22nd/22.)
- This is the second season where a female contestant got eliminated first (Pencil) chronologically, the first being Flower in Season 1.
- This is the first and only season not have a member of the original Squashy Grapes be the first season 1 contestant eliminated.
- This is the first season that David and Dora appeared together, however they are in different teams, as David is on Beep and Dora is on .
- This is the first season where Match makes it further than Pencil.
- The BFB intro was the first intro to feature the host, unlike the intros of BFDI, BFDIA, and IDFB.
- This is the first season of BFDI in 6 years to get past five episodes.
- This is due to BFDI reaching 6 episodes on June 1, 2010, BFDIA 6 being canceled, and IDFB going on its "best hiatus ever."
- IDFB 2 is having an intentional hiatus[citation needed], thus getting the name, "BFDI's best hiatus ever!"
- This is due to BFDI reaching 6 episodes on June 1, 2010, BFDIA 6 being canceled, and IDFB going on its "best hiatus ever."
- Match, Spongy, Blocky & Teardrop all reach their third elimination.
- Because of his elimination in "How Loe Can You Grow?", Spongy has become the first contestant to be eliminated four times.
- Blocky, Flower, Teardrop, and Woody all made it farther than they did in BFDI.
- This is the second season to have Tennis Ball and Ice Cube leave without receiving viewer votes, after BFDI.
- The scene backgrounds used in this series are from Paper Towel.
- Just like the previous seasons, BFB stingers always take place at night.
- This season marks the first time where Leafy, Bubble, and Firey were eliminated.
- This season also marks the first time Bubble was ever in the bottom two.
- The average number of limbs of a BFB contestant is 2.98.
- This is the first season to have contestants both join and rejoin without viewer votes or a contest.
- The logo with X and Four spell out "bfb", X's feet being the b's and Four in the middle being an f, all in lowercase.
- However, in the "Battle for Nothing" intro shown in "Enter the Exit", X appears to be frowning. His other foot now forms an "n", and Four is just an outline. The logo spells out "bfn".
- BFB episodes were expected to come out every two weeks despite no official schedule for them ever being made, but many episodes were released in three weeks or more, and one of them was released barely over a year after the one preceding it.
- During the Q&A of the 2019 BFDI + II Meetup, Cary stated that the host of BFB was originally going to be a giant spider.
- This is the first season in which the first word was spoken by Michael (as Pen) instead of Cary.
- The first episode was released the same day as the iPhone X, which is coincidental as X is the co-host.
- BFB was originally going to be called Sloppy BFDI.
- This is the first and only season to have teams selected by the host, as seen in "X Marks the Spot".
- Leafy competes on four teams, the most teams a contestant has been on in one season. She started on Beep, rejoined on The Losers!, joined the Have Cots after the split and then went to the Newbie Alliance in the final 4.
- The contestants not in the final 14 of BFB were originally going to be killed off, and The Power of Two was not considered early on.[3]
- This is the second season to reach the merge phase, with the first being BFDI.
- This is also the second time where Leafy, Firey, and Flower merged.
- This is the first season to surpass the number of Season 1 episodes.
- This is the first season to have a team form in the middle of the merge.
- This is the second season with three females and one male making up the final four.
- This is also the second time Flower and Leafy reached the final four.
- This is the first season where a contestant finishes in the same ranking as their previous season, as the 40 way tie for 55th-16th place in "The Escape from Four" includes the same ranks in between as Donut (22nd), Pin (20th), Needle (19th), Puffball (18th), Rocky (17th)c and Coiny's (16th) ranks in BFDI or BFDIA.
- Coiny is the only one who didn't tie for a rank that improved from their past season.
- This is the first season where a contestant is eliminated in the same episode number as their previous season, as Pen left the show in both episode sixteen of BFDI and this season.
- All the original contestants that were sent to the BRB after the split were original members of the Squishy Cherries.
- By bracketed letter, the number of times a contestant was eliminated under each are:
- [A] seven times: Balloony, Blocky, Bubble, Firey, Leafy, Stapy, Woody
- [B] three times: David, Liy, Teardrop (four if one counts Gelatin not winning)
- [C] three times: Leafy, Lollipop, Spongy
- [D] three times: Dora, Loser, Taco
- [E] five times: Bracelety, Loser, Roboty, Ruby, Spongy
- [F] twice: 8-Ball, Pencil
- [G] twice: Firey Jr., Match
- BFB is the second season to have a co-host after Battle for Dream Island Again, and it's also the first season to have a co-co-host.
- This is the second season to have a Squashy Grapes winner.
- This is the second season to end with the winner not keeping their prize(s), with Battle for Dream Island being the first.
- This is one of the two seasons to have multiple elimination areas, being the EXIT and BRB. The other season is BFDIA.
- In Season 4b, Gelatin received the most save votes ever during the season with 42,922 votes.
- This season currently has the most teams, at eleven.
- 8 Teams before the Split
- 3 Teams after the Split
